Job Purpose:

The Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Western Cape Government has an employment opportunity for a suitably qualified individual to render services which supports the fostering of a provincial identity and the protection of rights by preserving a provincial archival heritage for use by the government and the nation according to the Provincial Archives and Records Service of the Western Cape Act, 2005 (Act No. 3 of 2005). This post is based in Cape Town, CBD.

Western Cape Government: Outreach Programmes

Minimum Requirements:

An appropriate 3-year National Diploma/B-Degree (or higher qualification) in Archival studies or with history or publicity as a main subject; A valid code B driving license.


Understanding of automated storage and retrieval systems, electronic records, databases design and electronic publications.

Key Performance Areas:

Planning and administration of Public Programming Section; People Management; Publicity, publication and exhibitions; Information sessions and touring of groups; Oral history; Internships and learnerships.


Knowledge of improving archival management partnerships and practices; Written and verbal communication skills; Research skills; Public speaking skills; Ability to work independently and in a team.


R 257 508 per annum (Salary Level 7)

Note on remuneration: Cost-to-employer (CTE) remuneration packages for certain occupation-specific dispensations (OSD), the middle-management service (MMS) and contract positions are inclusive of all costs related to service benefits or obligations including basic salary, 13th cheaque, medical assistance, housing assistance, pension-fund contributions, etc. MMS remuneration packages are flexible and may be individually structured as prescribed. Where remuneration is not indicated as CTE, employees’ service benefits or obligations are funded or co-funded in terms of the applicable prescripts or collective agreements.
