Purpose of Job/ Role Intent:

To support production by providing effective equipment maintenance and reliability while adhering to procedures/codes and utilising all available support resources to increase stability and maintain sustainability of the plant. Provide assistance to the project group with commissioning actions. Be responsible for doing fault finding, routine maintenance and calibrations on analyser equipment and systems including capturing results recording on SAP within the analyser department.

Functional Outputs:

  • Apply and maintain safety in a working environment
  • Acquire sample containers
  • Draw sample with time stamp
  • Draw second samples and deliver to Lab if required
  • Receive all gas deliveries
  • Manage cylinder store stock levels
  • Use correct containers for different samples
  • Assist with installation and removal of analysers
  • Do tubing on sample systems and analysers
  • Change carrier gas cylinders
  • Responsible for analyser rough work workshop house keeping
  • Clean probes for maintenance
  • Perform routine and maintenance breakdown and calibrations
  • Conform to all relevant OHSACT requirements and ensure that NOSA and safety systems are maintained according to standards
  • Understand, apply and uphold engineering standards
  • Perform investigations and manage small modifications and projects and participate in HAZOP studies
  • Assist with development of junior personnel e.g. Apprentices and Assistants
  • Ability to do problem identification (identification of root cause) and problem solving
  • Verify, calibrate and maintain analyser equipment
  • Perform standby duties and work overtime as and when required
  • Share and implement best practices
  • Be self-driven and take ownership of assigned plants
  • Be committed to job at hand
  • Must be able to work at heights and in confined spaces
  • Responsible for good housekeeping in area of responsibility

Job Requirements: 

  • In line with Sasol’s commitment to Employment Equity, preference will be given to suitable candidates from designated groups.
  • In addition to a pre-employment medical examination, this position requires physical fitness assessment as part of the selection criteria

Minimum Qualifications & Experience:

  • Matric (Grade 12) or N3 with Maths & Science (Must)
  • NQF 4 Instrumentation Qualification (CHIETA/ MQA preferred)
  • Must have a valid code 08 Driver’s Licence
  • Be competent and experienced (min. 2 – 3 years post-apprenticeship) in an analyser maintenance environment (Advantage)
  • Familiar with various analyser applications including but not limited to:
  • Online GC Analysers e.g. Siemens, ABB, Yokogawa, etc.
  • Infrared Analysers
  • Water/effluent monitoring analysers
  • Gas Detectors Online/ Portable
  • Sampling system understanding and design
  • SAP system application
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work in a diverse environment
  • Successful communication and interaction with customers, management, colleagues and other business processes

Leadership & Values:

  • Attends training courses and seminars as per training matrix to improve competency and skills
  • Identifies personal training and development needs, and incorporates into PDP with group leader’s approval
  • Support the goals and vision of the business by meeting deadlines
  • Practical application of training

Relationships, Teamwork & Collaboration:

  • Performs plant inspections, and repairs as required to ensure equipment reliability
  • Provides adequate feedback to customers on work progress
  • Conducts My IMS inspections to maintain and improve plant sustainability
  • Ensures the correct history feedback is captured to improve renewals/ upgrades and critical spares are replaced
  • Attends and interacts in “toolbox talks” to improve plant safety
  • Attends and interacts in PDAs and RCAs to improve plant safety and stability
  • Spot continuous improvement opportunities in own work area
