About The Saldanha Bay Municipality:

Located on the West Coast of South Africa, the Saldanha Bay Municipality forms part of the West Coast District Municipality. The Municipality covers an area of more than 2000 square kilometers, with a coastline of over 230 kilometers. Saldanha has Africa’s biggest natural port.

The municipality is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, the Swartland Municipality and the Bergrivier Municipality. The head office is based in Vredenburg, while satellite offices are located in Paternoster; Langebaan; St Helena Bay; Hopefield and Saldanha.

About The Bursary Programme:

The Saldanha Bay Municipality will be awarding bursaries to 4 deserving students, within the following fields of study (undergraduate Degree or National Diploma):

  • Accounting
  • Economics
  • Finance
  • Internal Auditing
  • Risk Management
  • Supply Chain Management
  • Surveying
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Civil Engineering

Bursaries will be awarded to 2 students, to the approximate value of R70 000 per student. First year students may apply – the bursary will be extended to a maximum of 3 years, should students follow the bursary condition.

Once students have successfully completed their studies, they will be required to enroll in the Saldanha Bay Municipality internship program.

Shortlisted candidates will be contacted by 1 April 2021 – if you do not receive any feedback, please regard your application as unsuccessful.


Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

  • South African citizen
  • Parents/ guardians must reside within the Saldanha Bay Municipal Area
  • Completed Matric
  • Entering your first year of study in 2021
  • Studying or intend on studying full-time within one of the aforementioned fields of study (undergraduate Degree or National Diploma)
  • Accepted/ provisionally accepted to study at an accredited University or a University of Technology in South Africa
  • Achieved a minimum of 40% for Mathematics OR 50% for Mathematical Literacy in Matric
  • Achieved a minimum average of 60% in Matric OR a minimum average of 50% with a minimum average of 60% for Mathematics
  • From a previously disadvantaged group or have a disability
  • Preference will be given to students whose parents live within the municipal area of the Municipality. Partial preference will also be given to students from previously disadvantaged backgrounds and those with disabilities
